As part of this commitment, we operate a formal induction and training programme as well as specialist training relevant to their field. Our continuous improvement programme requires managers and employees to review and refresh their skills on a regular basis.

In addition to mandatory training, which includes Basic Life Support, Moving and Handling, The care Certificate and End of Life Care. We are an approved training centre by Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance and as such we also provide NVQs level 1 to 5 in Health and Social Care, Business Administration, Teaching, Assessing and Internal Quality Assurance.

Health/skills for care standards – 3-Day Induction Training

This is a Mandatory training course designed to meet skills for health/skills for care standards and align to the Core Skills Training Framework.

This is a three-day face-to-face training course covering the following:

Day 1

 

  • The Role of a Care Worker

  • Principles of Care & Confidentiality

  • Communication

  • Health and Safety

  • Fire Safety

  • Equality and Diversity

  • Safeguarding Adults/Children

NVQ’S

The Level 2

Diploma in Health and Social Care is for learners who work in the Health and Social Care Sector. It gives the learners the opportunity to develop and demonstrate competence in areas of Health & Social Care.  They will also develop technical skills, knowledge and understanding related to the specified job roles. Learners have the opportunity to take a general qualification in health and social care, or they may specialise in dementia care or learning disabilities. We provide you with lots of specialist resources to help you progress through the program:

  • Course Activities based on specific workplace requirements of your job
  • Resources to provide relevant background knowledge and legislation sources in completing the activities
  • Webinars both live and recorded to provide learners with relevant tutorial support
  • Workshops for learners to attend
  • Assessor workplace observation visits
  • One-to-one tutorial support via Skype or GoToMeeting
  • Email Support
  • Telephone access to assessors Monday to Friday during office hours
  • Access to the QCS management system
  • Online learning portal to view all learners activities and to access resources and monitor progression

Progression opportunities available to learners who achieve this qualification For the Care Home Assistant — achieving a Level 2 RQF qualification will show competence in the relevant areas and will also act as entry requirements to further development

  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for England (RQF), or to the
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) for Wales and Northern Ireland (RQF),
  • Level 3 Diploma in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) for Wales and Northern Ireland
  • or to specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which they work

The Level 3

Adult Pathway Diploma in Health and Social Care (Adults) confirms competence in areas of health and social care as appropriate and is the required qualification for registration and regulatory requirements in the social care sector in England. Learners have the opportunity to take a general qualification in health and social care, or they may specialise in dementia care, learning disabilities, substance abuse and management. Progression opportunities are available to learners who achieve this qualification

  • Achievement of this qualification may be able to be used as entry level to nursing
  • Level 4 or 5 RQF qualifications for the management or senior practitioner roles in health and social care, or to specialist qualifications reflecting the context in which they work.

Access Skills can offer Level 3, 4 and 5 Diploma funded qualifications to help you achieve your career goals. The Level 5 Diploma is recognised by regulatory bodies such as the Care Quality Commission (CQC) as a requirement for anyone looking to undertake a Registered Manager position. We can offer this programme to eligible learners who are supported by their employer as part of a government funded Higher Level Apprenticeship. The programme is delivered flexibly to support you in your workplace anywhere in England at times suitable to you. If you are interested in undertaking a Level 3, 4 or 5 Diploma then we can provide you with access to Advanced Learner Loans. If you are 19 or over when your course starts and have lived in the UK for at least 3 years you could be entitled to an Advanced Learner Loan. This government funded scheme pays your Access Skills course fees for you so you can start your programme immediately. There are no credit checks and your income is not assessed when you apply for the loan. You are not required to make any repayments of the loan until you are earning over £25,000 per annum. Where repayment occurs, you start to repay in April of the year after your course is completed, but only if you are earning more than £25,000pa at that time. If your earnings are below this, then you are not required to repay anything until earning more than £25,000pa. If earning more than £25,000pa then repayments once the course is completed are calculated at 9% of the income earned above this sum i.e. if earning £26,000pa repayment would only be £90pa. If you work for a registered care provider and are serious about developing yourself and your career by gaining a Level 3, 4 or 5 Diploma, then Access Skills is the perfect choice to support you in working towards and achieving your qualification.

The Level 4

Diploma in Adult Care is specifically designed for learners who already work in health and social care in adult settings. This qualification gives learners the opportunity to develop fundamental and specialist knowledge and understanding underpinning competence in their intended specialism and job role. This includes knowledge and understanding in areas such as safeguarding and protection in care, health and safety in health care settings, inclusive practice and equality and diversity, dementia care, stroke care management and public funding models in adult social care. This also includes skills such as developing and maintaining accurate records, facilitating support planning and person centred assessment, partnership working, mentoring and advanced communication skills. Learners will develop acceptable behaviours and attitudes to support competence and successful performance in the their intended job role; this includes developing positive attitudes to promoting and supporting equality and diversity, appreciation and adherence to the values, principles and statutory frameworks that underpin professional practice, and acceptable and required behaviours to ensure the safeguarding of children and young people in the Adult Care sector. We can offer this programme to eligible learners who are supported by their employer as part of a government funded Higher Level Apprenticeship. Please see our funding page for more information. The programme is delivered flexibly to support you in your workplace anywhere in England at times suitable to you. It is designed to be completed in a series of 12 study months completed usually within a 16-month period from the commencement date. We provide you with lots of specialist resources to help you progress through the program:

  • Resources to provide relevant background knowledge and legislation sources in completing the activities
  • Webinars both live and recorded to provide learners with relevant tutorial support
  • Workshops for learners to attend
  • Assessor workplace observation visits

  • Email Support
  • Telephone access to assessors Monday to Friday during office hours
  • Access to the QCS management system
  • Online learning portal to view all learners activities and to access resources and monitor progression

If you are employed in the Care Sector in England as a senior carer or occupy a management position it is likely that you will also be eligible to obtain government funding support for the programme.

1-Day End of Life Training

Half day training focusing on improving the care and treatment of those nearing end of life to ensure their palliative care needs and last wishes are met with dignity and respect. Raising awareness of the issues and concerns facing carers and relatives of dying loved ones.

PMVA (Prevention & Management of Violence & Aggression)

Delivered by specialists within MVA and members of the GSA, the training is updated regularly to keep up-to-date with new policies, procedure and best practice as recommended by NICE and BILD.

3-Day Beginners Training

  • Theoretical Training – Learn outcomes set down by the NHS and CFSMS

  • Understanding behaviours – violence, aggression and anger, self-injury behaviour, verbal and physical

  • Conflict management models

  • Service user perspective

  • Associated risks with safe holding and restraint

  • Reasonable force

  • Legislation (Health and Safety) Mental Capacity Act, Mental Health Act, Human Rights

  • Post-incident and debriefing

  • Physical Training Skills

  • Breakaway (disengagement) low and high level

  • De-escalation using physical techniques

  • Standing and escorting holds

  • Chair work (de-escalation and restraint)

  • Teamwork deployment

  • Low and high-level physical intervention techniques – floor-work, doorways, corridors, stair.

Care Certificate

The Care Certificate is an identified set of standards that health and social care workers adhere to in their daily working life.  Designed with the non-regulated workforce in mind, the Care Certificate gives everyone the confidence that workers have the same introductory skills, knowledge and behaviours to provide compassionate, safe and high quality care and support.  The Care Certificate is the new minimum standards that should be covered as part of induction training of new care workers.
